Out of this World!
I just came across the images on the Nat Geo website and though they were amazing. Totally unreal colors and shapes that haven't been seen yet. Could be a good place to look for the next big graphic style! haha!
New Finished Logo
After some research and idea generation i've decided to go with a wax sealed stamp logo. The idea will be to get the actual brass stamp made to be used with melting wax. The digital version is simply a white cut out and looks like this.
This version with the white is for my website and other online functions. The other will be a 3D version with the initials sticking out. I like the traditional red wax. i created this using special sealing wax and a smooth round lid. Photographed it and managed the image in Photoshop. I think the logo suits me perfect and is a launch pad for the rest of my branding.
Branding Myself
Ive started to look at branding myself as a designer. Im going to be looking at a logo, business card, website and others. The idea is to create something that sells me as a designer. I decide to use my whole name rather than a cheesy made up name. So i started looking at possibilities around Phillip Kevin Carter Design. Initials i think will look better than the whole name.
Here i looked at different type style and decided that the more traditional elegant logo at the very top is the logo for my brand. I like the way the P and C are slightly smaller and fit in nicely around the K. Also the serif typeface is very strong and has a little personality in the kick of the K.

Old Design Work
This is a double page spread i designed last year which i thought still looked quite nice. Normally old work is horrifying to look at. This is all about World Aids Day. its the subject i chose to do my spread and follow page on. I like the text at the top and how it links with the illustration. Hope you like it to.
Malarky Shutters @ The Pure Gallery
Malarky painted the shutters at the pure gallery this week. Awesome illustration skills with spray paint. seems to be a foxes head running from a three eyed, four legged monster. Nice.
Dead Sea Mob @ The Pure Gallery
I went to The Pure Gallery this week to see The Dead Sea Mobs exhibition. The work on display was fantastic and i really like the style of illustration. Especially after being involved with Turps Mag recently. The artists were Godmachine, Drew Millward, Twisted Loaf and Tom J Newell. Along side some installations in the gallery they had a number of original pieces and even mini beer bottles with prints inside. Here is some photos:
4Mations Evaluation
For my branding project I was asked to rebrand 4Mations, an animation based channel from Channel 4. I was asked to create a logo, a banner ad, a website design, and preloader storyboard all within the same brand.
I started by researching into similar brands by channel 4 such as E4 and Channel 5. I wanted to create something that could be used across all of the products. Almost a story that can be told through the stings and preloaders, giving the channel a personality aswell as a brand. I started with the logo. I decided to create a logo that comes to life, The 4Mations Robot was born. I liked the original feel of Channel 4 it maintained with an extra humorous twist. If I had more time I would like to explore the idea of making the logo 3D. This could have been a better way to illustrate my idea.
The story behind the logo is simply that of a clumsy, accident-prone robot that always gets in trouble. I illustrated this in the storyboards for the preloader. I think the idea for the storyboard works well with the brand of 4Mations. This also can carry on into many different funny scenarios. I like the way that the preloaders and stings are small cartoons in themselves, representing an animation channel.
So far in this project I’ve used tools familiar to me such as simple drawing and Adobe Illustrator. For the next part I had to learn how to use Adobe Flash. This was to make my website banner animation. At first I found the program quite difficult to use. After learning the basics I started to work on a few skills that would make my animation better. Including smother revealing of the robot arms and of the scratch marks at the end. The idea of the stupid robot works well I think.
The website was simply designed to give maximum attention to the content. I used large bold headers to separate the sections and kept the navigation constant at the top. Slight styling such as little scratch marks were used to carry on the 4Mations Robot idea and a colour palette was used throughout.
Overall I was very pleased with my progress on Flash and think the animation I designed would work well as part of a campaign. I would like to have spent a little more time learning the action script side of flash and maybe make some of the animations a bit smoother.
