Pre-loader
This is a 30 second preloader for Film4 and their Star Trek weekend. First thing I noticed was the intense red colour that has always been a trademark of Film4. The darker edges draw the viewer in and create more depth in, otherwise, a quite flat ident. Further more depth is created by smaller visuals of the main feature being scattered around. These do not take any focus away from the main feature that takes a few seconds to appear. Another trick used is the glare of a bright light on the right of the screen, which I think is to look like the glare of the sun on a camera, this directly links to the Film4 channel.
The main feature itself is directly linked to Star Trek with out loosing any of its loyalty to Film4. Lots of bright white lines fall down the screen and slowly, line by line materialise the Film4 logo. This is obviously a recreation of the Teleporter in the film and acts as a cleaver stall of the appearance of the logo. This is done in the opposite action to finish off the feature. The sound in the background helps the ident out alot. Its a noise to sound like the Teleporter with some other sci-fi noises surrounding it. I think this ident could work with out sound but is twice as good with it.
The ident also is created in a way to look like the camera is slightly panning around the feature. This also is a small feature which helps this very simplistic ident look much more intelligent than it is.
I feel this indent remains true to itself while taking on a simple and fun path advertise its product, which is the Star Trek films.
Sting
This is the sting to compliment the pre-loader, this lasts a mear 5 seconds and i feel is very impacting for the shot time it is viewed. This sting again uses the deep red associated with Film4 and darkened edges. The camera glare is actually inside the 4 and is more prominent as it extends around the whole screen.
The idea behind this sting again follows the StarTrek theme. This is based on the famous Star Trek doors which open and close with intense speed with a recognizable noise. This sting I feel relies a lot on the noise that the doors make but as a double act are unmistakable. The frame of the logo creates a square which is simply closed in a horizontal fashion to create the look of the Star Trek doors.
